New York City Outdoor Adventures

Exciting outdoor activities for every New York go-getter

New York City is a hub of entertainment and activity, come rain or shine. It’s a fantastic city to experience all year round. From kayaking along the river to biking around the city, you’ll never run out of fun in this vibrant city!

Fun in the City

If you’re craving a water adventure, head over to Manhattan Kayak, where you can rent a kayak or paddleboard. You can venture out into the cove, book a scenic tour to get all the city highlights, or take some lessons to help you brave any type of water. An NYC After Dark Trip is also available, where you’ll watch the skyline light up across the sky from the comfort of your vessel. You can also hone your climbing skills at Indoor Rock Climbing at Chelsea Piers Fitness, getting some excellent exercise while spending time with friends.

Biking in New York City is an easy, convenient, and scenic way to travel, whether for pleasure or purpose. Whether you’re avoiding daily traffic on your commute or simply sightseeing along the Brooklyn Bridge, the Citi Bike NYC is here to help. The Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway is a particular favorite, where you’ll tour the Brooklyn Bridge, Brooklyn’s waterfront of 18-miles of green, and several other attractions sprinkled in. Put your biking skills to the test with the TD Five Boro Bike Tour, a citywide event that brings thousands of participants together to bike the car-free streets of New York City.

Rainy Day Activities

There are plenty of New York City activities that can be experienced indoors, one being the Museum Mile. If it’s raining or snowing, no need to worry – head over to one of Manhattan’s many exciting cultural experiences. Marvel at thousands of centuries of artifacts at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, or browse more contemporary art at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

No matter the weather, the NYC Village Halloween Parade is one of the city’s most anticipated events. Join thousands of others in costume and festivity during this Halloween extravaganza, where you’ll admire spooky floats and fantastic costumes. There’s also the family-run Atlantic Yachting, a must-try that’s quickly grown into one of New York’s premier sailing locations. Book a private lesson for you or your family to get out on the seas and put your sailing to the test. Once you do, you’ll have an experience you’ll never forget.

Bucket List

For a world-renowned tradition that’s blasted across television screens for millions to watch, the Times Square New Year's Eve is a major bucket list item for many. A-list celebrity musical acts take the stage to perform, special guests commemorate everything that happened throughout the past year, and the Times Square Ball drops at the stroke of midnight signal the start of the new year. And, of course, it wouldn’t be a New York City experience without watching at least one NYC Broadway show. Become immersed in the music of Aladdin, the magic of Wicked, or the country’s history with Hamilton.

If your bucket list includes fitness-related activities, the TCS New York City Marathon is a must. You’ll begin on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge with gorgeous water views, work your way through Brooklyn and into Manhattan, and end in the southwestern part of Central Park. The NYCRUNS Brooklyn Marathon & Half Marathon is another race for you to partake in if you’re looking for something a little shorter than a full-fledged marathon. The marathon will take you around the entirety of Brooklyn, making your way over historic bridges and experiencing breathtaking views of Manhattan.
